Abstract
Following a historical review on optimum speed techniques, it is pointed out that the influence of the climbing rate in thermals is more important than the influence of an exact inter-thermal speed,,, The gain, as computed for certain examples using an ASW-15, may exceed 0.3 m/s in climbing rate which can be translated into higher cruising speeds.
